The Literacy NOW Program is closing as of June 30, 2010, but the website will continue to provide you with many resources.

In Washington State, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, 571,000 adults do not have a high school diploma and 260,000 have limited English skills. Washington's adult literacy programs develop the potential of low literate and limited English adults to meet the needs of employers, to support their families, and to help their children succeed in school.

Literacy NOW was created to strengthen the state’s adult literacy programs by providing training, resources, and information and referral. This year we will be closing Literacy NOW, but we will be making our resources available for use.

Our training page contains information about how to contact a former Literacy NOW trainer and work with them directly to provide workshops for your programs or institutions. The resources page contains orderable ESL and Literacy Preservice handbooks, archived newsletters, online resources and much more. We have also made our workshop agendas (some fully scripted) available for programs to use as well.

And finally, the Find a Program online directory of statewide ABE, ESL, and Citizenship programs will remain up and running through December 2010.
